Description
Swiss stone pine, also arrolla pine or siberian yellow pine is an evergreen tree, which becomes reel high: 20-30 meters! In Austria we find these trees in the Hohe Tauern, the Ötztal Alps and the Seetal Alps. In Switzerland in the Wallis, the Oberegadin and in Germany there is a small amount in the area around Bertesgaden.
Type of timber
The Swiss stone pine is a heartwood tree. The core is red and darkens strongly. The thin split-pin is yellow. This type of timber is used furniture cotruction (e.g. bedrooms or kitchens) fpr interior work e.g. panelling, for carving an shingles. Back in the time this type of timber, due to the available timber stock, was also used für Alpine cabins.
Health
Medica research has proofed, that a chamber of Swiss stone pine has a high relaxing quality. It reduces the heart frequency at any type of work load as well as it enhances recovery in the following relax period.
In Switzerland the famous "Arven wood pillows" are produced with special planed chips of stone pine.
